Ang
Lee gets passed over at the Oscars.
Letter
from the President:
Greetings fellow moviegoers and makers, it is not often that I
view any political or personal opinions on this website but something
very troubling is happening in Hollywood that I must address.
First thing is first, as I sit through yet another disappointing
Academy Award Ceremony I start to realize that the last few ceremonies
have been disappointing for one reason or the other.
How is it "Brokeback Mountain" does not win best picture
if Ang Lee (pictured) the person that directed it won best director?
How can "Crash" win Best Picture if the guy who directed
that best picture was not the best?
I am sick and tired of the Insult that this causes, it happened
in 1998 with The Moviegod Himself Steven Spielberg Winning Best
Director for "Saving Private Ryan" and "Shakespeare
in Love" won Best Picture, I know the two awards don't HAVE
to go together but they should.
You are the Best Writer this year but your book sucks, you are
the best Artist this year but your painting was mediocre, you
are the best singer this year but your Song was as Simon on "American
Idol" says ridiculously absurd (Not that I watch American
Idol... well just the auditions)
The last couple of Academy Awards have been disappointing and
I don't think I will be sitting in my Black Leather Chair, munchy
wunching on itty bitty little mini pizza bagel bites, Doritos
with Supermarket Deli Spinach Dip and a glass of Coke next year.
Not unless we have a really great Oscars like back in the 90's,
as a friend of mine quoted a couple of days ago, "We haven't
had a good Oscars since Titanic was nominated".

Martin
Scorsese gets passed over at the Oscars.
Letter
from the President:
Greetings fellow moviegoers and makers, it is not often that I
view any political or personal opinions on this website but something
very troubling is happening in Hollywood that I must address.
My disappointment with this year's Academy Awards started when
the nominations where announced, I already knew Martin Scorsese
would get a slap in the face once more from the "play it
safe" types at the Academy, they also did not nominate "The
Passion of the Christ" for best picture or Mel Gibson for
Best Director because the movie was too controversial it was banished
from the list of nominees.
This time around they decided to nominate Martin Scorsese AGAIN
and pin him against an actor turned director AGAIN and didn't
give him an Oscar for anything (AGAIN). The award was stolen from
him for absolutely no reason, he has been nominated for Best Director
5 times and has never won, He lost three best director - and best
picture - Oscars to leading-man actors turned directors: Robert
Redford, Kevin Costner, and Clint Eastwood ("Raging Bull"
lost to Redford's "Ordinary People"; "Goodfellas"
to Costner's "Dances with Wolves"; "The Aviator"
to Eastwood's "Million Dollar Baby"), Do you see a pattern?
I mean I'm not saying that it makes him any less to not win an
award because Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick also never
received and Oscar for any of their films why? My thoughts are
that the Academy is filled with politics like most things are
in this world and it saddens me that the Art of filmmaking gets
shrouded and painted over with politics, "The Passion of
the Christ" was a good "MOVIE" that is all a simple
movie, so what if "Goodfellas" and "Raging Bull"
where Violent? I Love "Dances with Wolves" as much as
the next guy but as far as this year goes if not "The Passion
of the Christ" it had to be "The Aviator" for best
Picture and Best Director it surpasses any other movie out there
as far as music, cinematography, acting and more, Martin Scorsese
deserves that award and the Academy Awards has disappointed me
and many others out there who have vowed to never watch another
show again.
And speaking of the "Show" Chris Rock did an ok job
as host this year, I was really expecting a lot more from him,
you want a hip edgy African American standup comedian get David
Chappelle he would have at least done some movie montages like
Billy Crystal or something and not spend 3 minutes on a bad George
Bush Joke that does not belong in a Movie awards show in the first
place.
The Bottom Line is that I was horribly disappointed in the Oscars
this year, when I get some snacks around me, turn the phones off
and relax to see MY version of the super bowl it terrifies me
to see the atrocity the show was and I am scared for next year.
Keep them coming Marty, you where the Best Director this year
to me and millions of others out there.

Director Jack Venturo meets Producer and Movie Icon Dino De Laurentiis
(Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Conan the Barbarian and more).
At a book signing in Hollywood Jack asked Mr. De Laurentiis "What
makes a great filmmaker?" Mr. De Laurentiis said to Jack In Italian
"I say you need the three Cs, Cuore (Heart), Cervello (Brain),
and Cojones (Cojones)."Later Jack asked, "What are your
thoughts on filmmakers thinking the digital age is just a fad, does
a movie need to be shot in film to be a real movie?" Mr. De Laurentiis
replied "You can make a movie on Film, on Digital or on a piece
of wood, Art is Art with what ever tool you use and as long as you
have a good story and the passion in there then it's a real movie".
Words of wisdom, Thank you Mr. De Laurentiis, those where some inspiring
words!

Mel
Gibson gets persecuted for making "The Passion of the Christ"
Letter
from the President:
Greetings fellow moviegoers and makers, it is not often that I
view any political or personal opinions on this website but something
very troubling is happening in Hollywood that I must address...
Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" was released
in theaters on February 25th; I saw it on February 27th after
months of hearing all kinds of things said about this movie I
feel it is my obligation as a filmmaker to express my thoughts
on this matter.
"The Passion of the Christ" is a great movie, and that's
all, its not Mel Gibson's attack of the Jewish Community or his
quest to put the blame of the death of Jesus on Jewish people,
its simply a depiction of a point in history as documented by
many history books and the Bible alike. If Mel Gibson is an anti-Semitic
for making "The Passion of the Christ" then Steven Spielberg
is an anti-German for making "Schindler's List" and
Marvin J. Chomsky is an anti-White People because he directed
"Roots", Kevin Costner is anti-American for directing
"Dances With Wolves", and M. Night Shyamalan is anti-Aliens
for directing "Signs" Etc Etc Etc. It makes no sense
at all.
Moviegod Productions Entertainment support Mel Gibson and his
passion for filmmaking against all odds, putting up his own money
and being truly independent.
The movie is a beautifully crafted piece of art and may the Moviegods
be with him.

what they gotta do and may the Moviegods be with them and all but
this is ridiculous. I'm not going to post hate messages or push
my political views on this website to anybody, Remember MPE's slogan
"Purely Entertaining" but come on! taking the fans out
of the Oscars what kind of war is this? This wouldn't happen if
it was a Star War at least in the movies nothing gets cancelled."
